A gay, HIV+ dentist with an active social life in Madrid's “bear” subculture and big circle of friends takes in his young nephew for a couple weeks. When it appears as though it might become a permanent arrangement, he turns to his friends for guidance as he and the 9-year-old boy begin to forge a household together. Complicating the picture is Bernardo's paternal grandmother who wants to be a much bigger part of Bernardo's life. Bear Cub (Cachorro) will inevitably provoke comparisons to Pedro Almodóvar's work, but Albaladejo's vision is his own: warm, perceptive, and unfailingly humane. It's a film that loves every single one of its characters, and the feeling is contagious. Don't miss it!
