We love the movies!

Bent Lens Cinema is equal parts political activism and community building, articulated through the topics, story lines and productions that we choose; and by the fact that we dare to illuminate the images of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer people onto the “big screen.”

The films we choose are designed to educate, entertain and enlighten us; challenge and motivate us. We hope we can participate in changing the world, one provocative, visual step at a time.

We’re motivated by a deep desire to share the beautiful and important art we find in GLBTQ cinema. The films we bring to Boulder explore what it means to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer across ethnic, nationality, class, and racial lines.

In a world where we’re largely banned from public recognition, openly displaying the images of GLBTQ people is a political act. The big screen is one way we can do this.

We want to stun, seduce, and maybe even subvert you while you watch some of the best films coming out of the queer community internationally.

Unlike traditional film festivals, we program films throughout the year rather than in one big blowout weekend. You’ll find the finest in contemporary GLBTQ cinema scheduled for Boulder audiences quarterly, as well as special classics and youth presentations sprinkled throughout the year. Programs are often followed by the Bent Salon where viewers can socialize and make new friends while enjoying some of our sponsor's delicious treats. Check our web site regularly for upcoming programs. As always, let us know what you want to see.

Our mission is to:
  • to provide a venue for screening the works of established and emerging gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer video and film makers or others who portray our community in a positive and affirmative light;
  • to bring noteworthy films by local, national and international talent to Front Range audiences, including films that may not otherwise see distribution in area theaters; and,
  • to build GLBTQ community and counter issues of invisibility and misinformation by providing a forum for viewing films that depict our lives and loves, and for discussing the films in a social and political context.

We hope you will join us at our next program. For more information on how to get involved with Bent Lens Cinema, please write to us using our secure email link.

See you at the movies!
