7PM My Summer of Love • 9PM Saving Face

The Dairy Center for the Arts

Bent Lens Cinema presents a spectacularly HOT double-feature night of critically acclaimed film.

7PM – MY SUMMER OF LOVE
WINNER OF THE 2004 BRITISH ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST FILM
my summer of love
Pawel Pawlikowski’s dark tale of summer love between 2 teenage girls living in the same village in England but from very different backgrounds. Mona (Nathalie Press) and Tasmin (Emily Blunt) fall in love to the dismay of Tasmin’s upper class family, and Mona’s post-prison, born-again brother (Paddy Considine, In America). The girls talk about plans to run away together, but as the summer draws to a close, their path takes a darker turn as the realities of their respective families take over.  A story noir of sexual awakening shot against the beautiful English countryside, Pawlikowski renders the dreamy intensity of their connection onto a canvas with unsuspected turns and a surprising ending.
9PM – SAVING FACE
THE BREAKAWAY CHINESE-AMERICAN HIT of 2005 FROM ALICE WU
Saving Face takes Chinese tradition and folds it into the American lifestyle of Wil (Michelle Krusiec), a Chinese-American doctor living in Manhattan as she tries to reconcile the unexpected arrival and pregnancy of her widowed mother (Joan Chen), with her own life with new girlfriend, Vivian (Lynn Chen), the dancer. First time director Alice Wu hits this tale out of the ballpark with wit, compassion and lust, as Wil tries to help her mother save face in her traditional Chinese community by finding her a new husband before friends discover her pregnancy. Produced by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett's production company, Saving Face has played to packed audiences and rave reviews at GLBT festivals around the world.

Ticket prices: General Admission -- $10 for one or both films
